AppRadio (SPH-DA01)

For owners of current AppRadio 2, AppRadio, and Advanced App Mode products*, please read the following important update: 

On September 18th, 2012 we announced two operational issues affecting Pioneer AppRadio and Advanced App Mode* products when connected to an iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 running iOS 6. To resolve these issues, both the Pioneer AppRadio app and each compatible third-party AppRadio app require an update.

The Pioneer AppRadio app has been updated to version 1.8.1 and is now available for download from the iTunes App Store.

The following compatible third-party AppRadio apps have also been updated and are confirmed to be compatible with iOS 6 and Pioneer AppRadio or Advanced App Mode* products. The updates restore the following features (if applicable).

1.) The updated compatible third-party app can be successfully launched from the AppRadio screen.

2.) Pinch to zoom is restored. (Please note, not all apps provide the pinch to zoom function.)

Firmware Updates

Dear Valued Pioneer Customer:

We would like to inform you of the availability of a free firmware update (version 2.63 released in July 2012) for the Pioneer AppRadio™ SPH-DA01 in-dash multimedia system. This firmware update applies only to AppRadio SPH-DA01 units sold in the United States and Canada. This firmware update (version 2.63) contains the following improvements:

• Adds a new General Settings option: App Launch Assist:
  • App Launch Assist ON (default): Displays a notification message on the AppRadio display when the iPhone is first connected. If the iPhone screen is unlocked, the SPH-DA01 will launch the AppRadio app on the iPhone.
  • App Launch Assist OFF: No notification message will be displayed on the AppRadio display when the iPhone is first connected. The AppRadio app must be launched directly from the iPhone when it is safe and legal to do so.
• Minor bug fixes for RADIO functions

This notice explains how to obtain the free firmware update for the AppRadio SPH-DA01.Even if you are not currently experiencing any issues with your AppRadio in-dash multimedia system, we still recommend that you install the free firmware update. Installation of the updates should take less than ten minutes to complete.

 

HOW TO OBTAIN THE FREE FIRMWARE UPDATE

1. Download the INSTRUCTIONS for the AppRadio Firmware Update v2.63.

2. There are two separate files for this update. You must first complete the BOOT FILE update followed by the FIRMWARE UPDATE. Download the files, decompress, and transfer the files to two microSD cards for insertion into the AppRadio.

• AppRadio SPH-DA01 Boot File Update
• AppRadio SPH-DA01 Firmware Update (v2.63)

You can also choose to order microSD cards containing the free update by calling Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1404 and then transferring to the Parts Order Department or arrange for your AppRadio SPH-DA01 in-dash multimedia system to be shipped to Pioneer for installation of the update by calling Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1404 and then transferring to the Warranty & Service Department.

 

HOW TO DETERMINE IF THE FIRMWARE UPDATE HAS ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED

1. From the AppRadio main screen, press the settings icon in the upper left hand corner, and select the General settings icon.

2. Press the Radio icon at the bottom of the General settings screen.

3. If the Software Version shows V2.63, the update has already been installed.

4. If the Radio settings screen shows a Software Version of V2.45 or lower, or no software version is displayed at all, then the V2.63 update is required.
