Message to Consumers Who Own a Pioneer Navigation System Affected by Microsoft’s Decision to Discontinue the MSN® Direct Service:
Microsoft recently announced that its MSN® Direct in-vehicle service will be available only until January 1, 2012. The MSN Direct service provides to active subscribers of the service updated information about traffic, gas prices, movie times, weather, news, stocks, local events and more. MSN Direct is not affiliated with Pioneer.
All Pioneer navigation systems will continue to be fully operational as navigation systems even after the discontinuation of the MSN Direct service. This announcement only affects those customers who (1) have an affected Pioneer navigation system, (2) have an active MSN Direct subscription, and (2) use the MSN Direct service on their Pioneer navigation system. The following models of Pioneer navigation systems are MSN Direct ready (i.e., capable of connecting to the MSN Direct service):
* Optional tuner (ND-MDT10) required to access the MSN Direct service
MSN Direct subscribers can continue to enjoy the full benefits of the MSN Direct service up until January 1, 2012. Microsoft has stated that pro-rated refunds for unused portions of existing One-Time Payments and other subscription plans will be automatically credited back to subscribers after January 1, 2012. Microsoft has also stated that subscribers may cancel service at any point prior to that date and receive a pro-rated refund for any unused portion of their subscription. The MSN Direct service icons will remain a part of the display screens on numerous Pioneer navigation models but will no longer be functional after the announced date.
