Pioneer’s Single CD Players Have Striking New Looks Combined with the Latest Technologies

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today presented a line of Pioneer and Pioneer Premier single CD players that please the eyes and ears of car audio enthusiasts and novices alike.  Fourteen CD players, from the entry-level model to the flagship unit, were revamped for improved design, functionality and feature content, incorporating technologies such as organic electroluminescence (OEL) displays, rotary commander controls, MP3/WMA/AAC playback, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio capability, MOSFET50, Easy EQ, iPod controls and Bluetooth connectivity. 

“We’ve put a lot of emphasis on the style and functionality of each single CD player so it will make a dramatic difference in the looks of the dashboard and sounds of the vehicle,” said Larry Rougas, vice president of marketing and product planning for the mobile entertainment division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.   “We’ve also added features that are essential to today’s consumers such as iPod controls, compressed audio playback and cell phone wireless technology.”

Based on consumer feedback about the popular rotary commander, Pioneer increased the number of single CD players with that feature.    Combined with the OEL technology, the rotary commander improves a consumer’s ability to access the many features of the single CD player.  With its joystick, button and rotary operation it’s easier than ever for a consumer to find the exact song or album they want to hear.   

Two single CD players, the DEH-P5800MP and the DEH-P580MP, were treated with red button illumination to match the interior of particular vehicles popular among many Gen-Y consumers.  The red illumination in contrast with Pioneer’s cool blue OEL display blends perfectly with vehicles that use red and blue interior and dash lighting of popular tuner vehicles.

Featured technologies in Pioneer and Pioneer Premier in-car CD players include:

• Bluetooth and Hands-Free Operation – Available on the DEH-P9800BT and Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT, Bluetooth wireless technology is built-in enabling a driver to connect to as many as five Bluetooth-enabled cellular phones for hands-free operation.  A microphone supplied with both units allows the user to answer and make phone calls directly from the car stereos.  Telephone conversations take place through the vehicle’s speaker system. 
• Organic Electroluminescence Display – Organic EL display, first introduced by Pioneer in 1998, revolutionized display technology because of its extreme brightness, low current consumption and wide viewing angle.   Pioneer’s OEL technology is used in eight players, four with full-color, to produce unrivaled graphics for an easy to read display.  
• Rotary Commanders – The rotary commander is a multi-functional knob that combines a joystick, button and rotary control for quick access to most audio and control functions.  Scrolling through music files from an iPod or MP3/WMA discs is fast and easy and a push of the rotary commander confirms the choice in command.  
• iTunes® AAC/MP3/WMA playback – The popularity of compressed audio has exploded in recent years allowing consumers to store an abundant amount of music in one CD-R disc.  Twelve CD players support playback of MP3 and WMA files using a highly improved digital speed-read mechanism, which provides faster loading and track-to-track access times.  Six players also supports iTunes playback used by the highly popular iPod players.
• Auxiliary Input – Most of Pioneer’s 2006 single CD line-up includes a built-in auxiliary input making it easy to integrate popular portable devices. Portable devices with mini-jack ports connect directly to the back of the players allowing the user to hear their music content through the Pioneer stereo.
• iPod® Ready – Along with an optional CD-IB100II iPod adapter, Pioneer’s car stereos provide full control of the highly popular iPod device through the IP-Bus connection.  Players with OEL panel can display multiple lines of information to show album, artist and song names.  Entry and mid level products with LED and LCD panels utilize 16-character displays with scrolling capability.   
• Satellite Radio Ready – The new CD players are SIRIUS and XM Satellite Radio ready, giving consumers a choice in service.  Access to more than 120 channels of music, sports and news are available with both services using an optional tuner and paid subscription.
• MOSFET50 –MOSFET 50 watts X 4 amplification gives consumers the power they desire in an aftermarket car stereo.
• Easy EQ – Pioneer makes it easy to contour the sound for any consumer taste.  With five different factory settings (vocal, natural, powerful, super bass and flat) and the ability to make changes with the 3-band parametric equalizer, Easy EQ dials in optimal sound for every type of music.
• Multi-Language – Each unit provides users a choice of three languages: English, Spanish or French.
