Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., the largest car speaker manufacturer in the world, today introduced the REV series speakers, including the TS-D690R (6" x 9" 2-Way), TS-D160R (6-1/2" 2-Way), TS-D170R (6-3/4" 2-Way) and TS-D160R (6" x 8" 2-way). The REV series, which capitalizes on the many technological breakthroughs found in Pioneer's IASCA award-winning Premier Reference Series (PRS) speakers, are high performance with exceptional sound quality and unique cosmetics designed for the popular tuner market.
"The 16-24 year old tuner demographic is very focused on aesthetics. The REV series speakers combines great looks with high quality audio to meet the needs of the dynamic tuner market," said Michael Townsen, vice president of marketing, Mobile Entertainment Division, Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.
The REV speakers take on a very different look from conventional speakers with a yellow aramid fiber cone and a grill that simulates very expensive exotic wheels. Like aftermarket wheels, these speakers are meant to be seen and admired. Pioneer chose a six-directional spoke design, treated with a titanium finish to simulate wheels and create a look inside the car that appeals to the young tuner market. The grill can be removed if necessary for installation.
Using the same technology found in its successful PRS speaker line, Pioneer uses an aramid fiber material for its cone, known for its strength and impeccable sound quality. Aramid fiber, a lightweight but very strong material, creates a very rigid cone that provides fast and accurate mid bass response appropriate for all types of music.
The PRS heritage continues within the REV series by using the same tweeter design. A large 1-1/8" soft dome tweeter made of polyester fiber is encased in a specially designed anti-resonant sealed chamber. The tweeter chamber is notched behind the cone to decrease standing waves and lower frequency response resulting in a very smooth high frequency sound. In addition, the tweeter cone sits between dispersion guides, which direct the sound to the listener's ears providing better imaging and staging.
To further enhance performance and ease of installation, each REV series speaker comes with a -6 dB crossover for the mid-woofer and a -12 dB high pass for the tweeter.
Pioneer's Mobile Entertainment Division is the leading manufacturer of audio, video and information products for in-car use. The Company markets its products under the Pioneer and Premier brand names. Its focus is on the development of new digital technologies including visual/audio, navigation, and satellite radio, while maintaining its strong heritage in products for car audio enthusiasts and competitors.
