Premier REV Series Speakers from Pioneer Take on New Sound and Bold Looks

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., the leader in automotive speaker technology, continues to set the bar in speaker design with the introduction of its newest line of Premier REV series speakers that feature a bold cosmetic design, new cone assembly and laminated polyester soft dome tweeter for improved sound quality.   The new line of Premier REV speakers includes the TS-D601P (6-1/2” 2-Way), TS-D701P (6-3/4” 2-Way), TS-D801P (6” x 8” 2-Way) and TS-D901P (6” x 9” 2-Way).

“Previous REV series speakers are among the most popular speakers in the market because of its exceptional sound quality and great looks,” said Michael Townsen, vice president of marketing for mobile entertainment at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “Before any changes were made, we conducted consumer focus groups to establish our new cosmetic direction and to make sure that the sound quality of the Premier REV speakers are above their standards.”

To improve mid-bass performance, Pioneer developed a new patent-pending cone combining aramid fiber fiber together with Rigilite injection molded polypropylene (IMPP) composite to make the cone extremely rigid and lightweight.    aramid fiber fiber material lays on top of the IMPP material and is then ceramic coated which results in improved mid-bass sound with more accuracy and detail, bringing out the body of the music, making everything from guitars to drums more life like. 

Pioneer engineered the tweeter to match the response from the aramid fiber/IMPP cone by using a rear chamber design. The specially designed chamber prevents standing waves and creates a loading effect to help the tweeter produce a wider frequency response.    The tweeter, made of high quality laminated polyester, is placed in a waveguide chamber to control and direct the sound to the listener’s ears.  To further enhance performance and ease of installation, each REV series speaker comes with a –12 dB high pass and low pass filter, using audiophile quality capacitors and inductors.   

The REV speakers also take a slightly different cosmetic design.  Painted in silver, the grill is designed with four directional spokes for a better cosmetic appeal, popular among young consumers.  Other cosmetic improvements include a magnet boot, new custom speaker basket and an acrylic crossover cover further enhancing the overall look of the speakers.

Pricing and availability will be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2005.
