Pandora and vTuner Internet Radio Services Now Available on Pioneer SMA Wireless Speakers with Firmware Update
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. announced a free firmware update that adds the extremely popular Pandora® Internet radio and vTuner® Internet radio services* as available features on its line of SMA series Wi-Fi® speaker systems, the XW-SMA1-K, XW-SMA3-K and XW-SMA4-K. With a simple update, Pandora and vTuner are incorporated as sources available on the wireless speakers, expanding the user’s entertainment options with a virtually endless playlist of music and access to more than 10,000 Internet radio stations across the globe.
The new Internet radio options can be conveniently controlled through the user’s compatible smartphone device(s) via Pioneer’s ControlApp, available for both Apple® iOS and Android® operating systems. ControlApp provides a unique user experience with the ability to find and choose radio stations, control volume, and display song title, artist, album art.
- Pandora – Pandora Internet radio fans can access their personalized radio stations through Pioneer’s ControlApp and control playback to the SMA wireless speakers. Much like the PC and smartphone versions, with ControlApp, users can select thumbs up/down, create stations, and display radio stations, album, song title and artist.
- vTuner – vTuner Internet radio service offers access to thousands of Internet radio stations around the world, covering a wide variety of genres. From the ControlApp on-screen display, users can easily find their favorite participating stations and receive the broadcasts regardless of the station’s location.
The Pioneer SMA wireless speakers produce exceptional audio playback with sound tuning by Pioneer’s chief speaker designer, Andrew Jones. Pioneer takes advantage of the high bandwidth of Wi-Fi to provide excellent sound quality without the additional audio compression and shorter range that are characteristic of other wireless technologies. Because Pandora and vTuner become built-in sources (after installation of the firmware update), music started through ControlApp will continue to play on the speaker, even when the smart device used with the speaker is no longer within range.
The firmware update to add Pandora and vTuner is available on the Pioneer website.
