Pioneer DVD Drive Selected For Use In TiVo DVD Recorder Reference Design
Long Beach 7/28/2004
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today announced that its recordable DVD drive has been selected by TiVo Inc. for use in the Company's 2004 DVD recorder reference design. The addition of a Pioneer DVD burner to a standard TiVo hard drive recorder makes it easier than ever for consumers to record their favorite television programming on a hard drive, and then burn to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs to store and watch at home or on the go. As several consumer electronics manufacturers set out to create a combination hard drive and DVD recorder with TiVo service, TiVo will provide a reference design and recommend use of Pioneer's DVD burner.
"We are pleased with the quality and reliability of Pioneer's DVD drives, and have selected them as a component of our 2004 DVD recorder reference design that we will share with consumer electronics companies interested in manufacturing integrated DVR/DVD recorder products with TiVo," said Jeff Klugman, vice president, platform business, TiVo Inc.
The drive specified by TiVo is based on the DVR-108 DVD burner, which features Pioneer's advanced precision recording technology for optimum recording performance, even if the blank disc is slightly irregular. Additionally, the new quiet drive technology reduces operating noise and vibration, making the DVD playback process practically silent.
"TiVo has developed a compelling, easy to use platform for DVD recording. They are a great partner for Pioneer, and we know that our drives offer the reliability needed to meet their customer service expectations," said James Rowley, vice president of optical drives for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "The consumer electronics industry is poised for strong growth in the DVD recorder market and we are confident that TiVo has a great solution for consumers in this space."
