A rare element of the periodic table, beryllium holds the key to both the midrange cone and tweeter dome in our Reference One speakers. The lightest and most rigid metal applicable to this process, beryllium offers both strength and dampening characteristics that are unrivaled by any other diaphragm materials. And as TAD™ is the only speaker to employ vapor deposition, the pure crystalline structure of the TAD beryllium (when created under a vacuum) is audibly superior to all other drivers.

To ensure that all sound – direct and reflected – arrives at the listening position with identical timbre, TAD™ speakers employ exclusive Coherent Source Transducer (CST) driver technology. This technology makes sure the beryllium tweeter is mounted in the center of the beryllium midrange driver. The result allows for sound directivity to be precisely controlled at all frequencies. The resulting aligned sound delivery is extremely smooth and coherent, eradicating phase and off-axis frequency response that would be naturally found in conventional drivers.

Packed with first-class components, the bass technology that makes up every TAD™ Reference One speaker guarantees superior sound performance, even at the lowest of frequencies. With an extremely rigid and solid cone structure, more stability and uniform cone movement are achieved to enhance the dynamic performance. A specially designed basket frame also significantly reduces unnecessary reaction and resonance. Add to that an ultra-strong neodymium magnet and large voice coil, and the perfection of the resulting sound quality appears effortless.

With a pair of 10” bass drivers reproducing frequencies from 25Hz to 250Hz with stunning authority, our cones in the TAD™ Reference One employ a tri-laminate construction of woven aramid fibers sandwiching a foamed acrylic core. The result enables the transducers to possess enormous rigidity and speed when reproducing, with next to no distortion, the very loudest bass passages. In turn, our bass drivers are also enclosed within a thick multi-laminate cabinet structure that is engineered to virtually eliminate standing waves and resonances through careful cabinet design and construction. ISO-Drive technology then mechanically isolates the CST driver within its dedicated enclosure to reduce the transfer of mechanical energy that can smear imaging and sound detail. Lastly, the teardrop shape of the Reference One is also designed specifically to minimize front baffle and rear diffraction anomalies.
