Computer DVD Drives - PATA or SATA
PATA or SATA- Which DVD drive is right for your computer? Computer DVD drives are categorized by the type of connection used between the computer and drive.
- The SATA interface (also known as Serial ATA) is the rising superstar of the internal drive world because of its fast transfer capabilities.
- PATA (Parallel ATA) DVD drives have been the standard and is common in senior computers.

To figure out which drive will work with your computer drive, take a look at your computer's existing DVD drive. You'll see a power supply cable and a data cable.
If the power connector is a large cord it is a PATA. If its a small cord, similar in size to a USB drive, it's a SATA.
Some computers have components for both PATA and SATA interfaces, allowing for the connection and use of both interfaces simultaneously. This allows for more flexibility when choosing a drive.
