System Firmware Update Instructions for Model BDP-430 using a USB memory device NOTE: - If you have any difficulty carrying out these instructions, please first refer to the System Firmware Update FAQ included in this document and/or contact Pioneer Customer Support Center. A. Check the current firmware version of the player: Using the player's remote control: 1. Press the "STANDBY/ON" button to switch the unit on. * If the player starts to play a disc, press the "STOP" button and wait until the Pioneer logo is displayed on your TV. 2. Press the "Home Menu" button to display the gHOME MENUh. 3. Use the cursor buttons (up/down) to Select "Settings" and press the gENTERh button. 4. Use the cursor buttons (up/down) to Select "Version" and press the gENTERh button. 5. The firmware version of your player will be displayed in the center of the TV screen. If the version number is PC11090902 or higher, it is not necessary to update the firmware. If the version number is less than PC11090902, it is necessary to update the firmware. Please continue to Step B. B. Download the system firmware ZIP file from Pioneer's website: 1. Download the file named "BDP_430_PC11090902.zip" from the website to a folder on your computer. C. Preparing the System Firmware Update USB memory device: 1. Have your USB memory device ready Requirements of your USB memory device: - USB specification 2.0. - 32 MB or more in capacity. - Should not contain any files. 2. Connect your USB memory device to your computer. 3. Double click the downloaded ZIP file "BDP_430_PC11090902.zip" to open it. 4. Unzip it and save the file named "BDP430_122.iso" to a folder on your computer. 5. Copy the iso file to your USB memory device. 6. Confirm the file name and the file size are correct on your USB memory device: To check the file size in Microsoft Windows, select the file, press the right mouse button, and select "Properties". If the file name and size do not match the ones listed below, perform steps B and C again. BDP430_122.iso 59.0Mbyte (61,919,232byte) * If the correct file is not copied to your USB memory device, your player will not recognize it as an update USB memory device and you will not be able to carry out the update. D. Update the player's system firmware: NOTE: - The update process takes approximately 2 minutes to be completed. - Before updating the system firmware, confirm that the disc tray is empty. - When you insert or remove a USB memory device, be sure to turn the main power off. 1.Connect the USB memory device. * Be sure to connect your USB memory device to the USB port on the player's front panel. If your USB memory devices are already connected to both the USB ports on the player's front and rear panels, disconnect the USB memory device on the front and replace it with the USB memory device which contains the system firmware update file. 2. Press the "STANDBY/ON" button to switch your player on. 3. When an update file is found, the playerfs current software version and the version of the update file stored on the USB memory device are displayed. * To update this player firmware with the update file, select "Yes", and press the "ENTER" button. * If your USB memory device is not properly installed or the correct firmware update file cannot be found on your USB memory device, an error message is displayed. In this case, check the file on your USB memory device, and then reinsert it correctly into your player. 4. Press "ENTER" to start updating. * The screen becomes dark for a while until the update screen is displayed. Please wait for the update screen to be displayed. * Do not unplug the AC power cable during the updating process! * "DOWNLOAD" will be displayed on the front panel display of your player and will blink during the update process. 5. When the system firmware is successfully updated, a message "Success,player will start after the USB device removal." is displayed on your TV screen and "DOWNLOAD OK" will be displayed on the front panel display of your player * If the update fails, check the file in the USB memory device and try again. 6. Disconnect your USB memory device after your player is powered off automatically. *The player restarts automatically. If instructions appear on the screen, operate following these instructions. 7. Check the firmware version by the same steps described in section A. * If the version has not been updated, then perform the system firmware update again. System Firmware Update FAQ Q: What do I do if the power cord is unplugged or a black out occurs during the update? A: Power on the player. The update process should resume in a few minutes. If the update does not resume, the player will need repairs. In such an event, call Pioneer Customer Support Center. Q: What do I do if the "DOWNLOAD" message does not appear on the front panel display as described in step 4 of section D? A: There could be a problem with the update USB memory device you created. Try downloading the firmware file again, create another firmware update USB memory device, and follow step D. Update the player's system firmware. Q: What do I do if over 60 minutes have passed and the player has not switched to standby mode? A: Press and hold the "STANDBY/ON" button for over 5 seconds to put the player in standby mode. If the player does not switch to standby mode, unplug the power cord then plug the power cord back in. The update process should resume. If the update does not resume, try again starting at section D. If the update does not resume again, the player will need repairs. In such an event, call Pioneer Customer Support Center.
