Pioneer Combines Looks, Performance and Value in New GM-X and GM-D Series Amplifiers
Company Provides First Entry into Digital Amp Category
Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., the established leader in mobile entertainment products, today unveiled the GM-X series and GM-D series amplifiers, designed for excellent sound quality, exceptional power delivery and outstanding value.
Pioneer enters the class "D" digital amplifier category with its GM-D series power amps, including the GM-D500M and GM-D300M mono channel amps and the GM-D505 five-channel amplifier. The digital amplifiers were designed to produce excessive power output at very low distortion levels. They amplify a limited bandwidth in the low frequency region for use with large speakers such as subwoofers. These amplifiers are 67 percent more efficient than conventional power amps and produce less heat.
The GM-D series uses a pulse width modulation circuit (PWM) to cut high frequency signal and to output lower frequencies much more efficiently. The results are lower current consumption and bigger output. Because of the limited bandwidth, lower current consumption and lower operating temperatures, Pioneer was able to contain the GM-D amplifiers in a much smaller chassis, saving space for installation. The new digital amps start at a suggested retail price of $320.
"Our class-D amplifiers enable consumers to obtain massive amounts of power without taking up too much space," said Michael Townsen, vice president of marketing for mobile entertainment at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.
Pioneer's popular GM-X series amplifiers were completely redesigned to provide more power and features. A retro cosmetic design uses a lower profile chassis for easier installation. The GM-X line includes three 2-channel and two 4-channel amplifiers.
Sound quality and performance enhancements to the GM-X series include high operating voltage and DMOS (MOSFET) circuitry for more power with very low distortion. These new amplifiers can operate at 2-Ohm stereo for more power and contain crossovers for simple installations. Other enhancements include high volt input from 200mV-6.5 volts and speaker level inputs. An aluminum vertical heat sink design cools faster for improved performance and overall cosmetic enhancement. Prices begin at a suggested retail price of $100.
"Car audio enthusiasts want affordable power that performs. The new GM-X series provides the best of both worlds, excellent sound characteristics and great value," Townsen said.
